Did you know that the active extract of the white willow bark, called salicin, has anti-inflammatory properties and is a natural, historical precursor to aspirin? (Salicylic acid, like aspirin, is a chemical derivative of salicin). Willow bark has long been used in Europe and China to ease aches, pains and reduce fevers. This remedy is mentioned in texts dating of ancient Egypt.
In addition to anti-inflammatory salicin, willow bark also contains flavonoids and tannins. Flavonoids have high concentrations of antioxidants that help to neutralise free-radicals and protect against environmental stressors that cause cell damage. Tannins are naturally anti-bacterial and astringent, meaning they tighten the skin and help remove excess oil without drying the skin.
We include Willow Bark in our Hydrating Face Mist to soothe and help calm inflamed and red skin and prevent breakouts.
